About KriolBook
KriolBook is an independent digital bookstore dedicated to the language, history, and culture of Cape Verde. Our goal is simple and essential: to convey Cape Verdean Kriolu with pride, clarity, and modernity. We believe that every word, every expression, every proverb is a fragment of identity. Learning Kriolu means bringing this heritage to life.
Through illustrated, interactive ebooks available in several languages, we offer a progressive method accessible to all: travelers, members of the diaspora, children of immigrants, language enthusiasts, teachers or curious passers-by.
KriolBook doesn't just teach a language. It transmits a memory, a way of life, a way of thinking specific to the Cape Verdean people: between land and sea, between Africa and Europe, between roots and migration.
A project designed for all those who want to reconnect with Cape Verde
Kriolu is not uniform. Each island, each region, each family adds its own unique flavor. At KriolBook, we highlight the Kriolu spoken on Santiago, but we also incorporate variants from other islands—such as São Vicente, Fogo, and Santo Antão—to offer a comprehensive view of this living language.
Our approach is simple, clear, structured, and rooted in the reality of everyday Cape Verdean life. Learning Kriolu with us also means discovering the archipelago's history, its music (morna, funaná, batuco), its proverbs, its cuisine, its emblematic figures, and its values.

Who are we ?
KriolBook was founded by Isau Almeida, a Cape Verdean and child of the diaspora. Born in Santiago, from two islands, and raised between cultures, he grew up with the conviction that a language that is not passed on is a language that disappears.
Through this project, he hopes to give kriolu back the place it deserves: in schools, in homes, on screens, in the mouths of young and old alike.
KriolBook is a bridge between generations, between islands and the diaspora, between memory and the future.
“Nu ka podi perdi nos língua. Nu ten ki papial, ku orgulho.”
“We must not lose our language. We must speak it, with pride.”
